ATLANTIC AREA PROGRAMME
The UK, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal are participating in the Atlantic Area Programme. The eligible areas are the whole of Ireland and Portugal, and those regions within Spain, the UK and France that border the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Area Programme addresses a number of broad development issues:

encourage the competitiveness and the economy of the area;

improve social integration and opportunity;

ensure efficient use of resources and protection of the environment and heritage;

seek sustainable development patterns, particularly in the form and function of settlements and their relationships with their hinterland;

generate and implement synergies between different European programmes and policies.
The following sections provide an outline of the Priorities and Measures, Eligible Projects and Partnership Arrangements that apply to the Atlantic Area Programme. This is not a comprehensive list, for example it provides only examples of the types of activities that might be supported.
