Programme Information - North Sea Region
The steering committee of the North Sea Programme has now met 5 times to approve projects. It has approved 11 UK-led projects and a further 38 involving UK partners. The programme has now committed all but €10.5 million, the next call with therefore concentrate the remaining funds on themes of strategic importance for the North Sea Area. The next call will be limited to a few themes and there will be additional target-based criteria. Only projects meeting such criteria will be considered. In addition, funds will be limited so preference will be given to small strategic projects that clearly demonstrate value for money. The focused themes will be:
- Increased accessibility of the North Sea Region.
- Sustainable tourism framework for the North Sea Region.
- Integrated coastal management.
- Establishment and improvement of coastal defences.
- River management strategies and structures.
- Update the spatial vision.
- Maritime safety umbrella operation.
The themes have yet to be finally endorsed by the PMC. The deadline for submitting applications will be 30th November 2004 and the steering committee is expected to meet in March 2005 to decide upon applications.
Decommitment - General Warning Message
The issue of decommitment and spending targets are high on the agenda this year.
All project partners involved in ERDF funded projects under the INTERREG programmes are encouraged to send their requests for ERDF payment to the respective Programme Secretariats as soon as possible and certainly within the final deadlines set by each Programme.
It is very important that ERDF projects meet their approved spending targets - and to inform the respective international Programme Secretariat about any deviations from the approved spending targets as soon as possible - so that the Secretariats can take action to minimise the risk of losing ERDF grants.
We are not able to answer individual questions concerning the above. For further information, you are advised to contact the respective Programme Secretariats.
UK Partners and Lead Partners may wish to note that revised guidance has been issued for claims processing in the Atlantic Area INTERREG IIIB programme (see Atlantic Area website for a copy of the guidance).
