Programme Information - Atlantic Area

The Atlantic Area programme has held three calls for proposals so far, and the first was split into three phases.

The second call for applications for funding for Atlantic INTERREG projects closed on June 30th 2004. The Secretariat in Poitiers received 57 applications for Priority B (Transport & IT) and Priority D (Culture, Heritage and Tourism). Their total value was €68.5 million in ERDF; there was however, only €22 million of ERDF available to allocate to successful projects. Priorities A and B were closed. The intervention rates for Priority B were-57% and for Priority D-58%.

15 applications were approved with a value of €26 885 640 ERDF. Five of these, worth €11 689 088 ERDF, are led from the UK: PARTNER on improving public transport ground access to airports; EROCIPS on responding to pollution on land from oil spills at sea; CANTATA on authentic encounters with local cultures in tourist areas; RAFAEL on local and organic food links, and SPAA on place marketing.

In addition, an exceptional extra Call for proposals was held for projects responding to the oil spill from the tanker Prestige which occurred in late 2002. This resulted in one application which was approved in December 2004 for €13 million ERDF. Some of this money would otherwise have been lost to the Programme under the 'N+2 rule', which means that the Programme can carry forward its annual allocation for up to 2 years but any under spend at the end of that time must be returned to the Commission.
